Building LCA analysis

Sustainability is designed throughout the entire life cycle of the building

With the evolution of European legislation, the construction sector is undergoing a profound change: alongside traditional energy performance, the assessment of the environmental impacts of materials, plants and design choices throughout the entire life cycle of the work takes on an increasingly important role.

Indicators and tools such as LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), GWP (Global Warming Potential), Embodied Carbon and EPD (Environmental Product Declarations) are today fundamental elements of sustainable design and are becoming increasingly important both in response to regulatory developments and market demands.

The regulatory deadlines on the horizon:

  • From January 1, 2028: for newly built buildings with a useful area greater than 1,000 m², the calculation of the Global Warming Potential (GWP) over the life cycle of the work will be mandatory.
  • From 1 January 2030: the obligation to calculate the GWP will be extended to all new buildings.
  • Already today: CAMs Construction require LCA studies in public contracts and recognize specific rewards for design optimization strategies based on LCA and LCC analysis. At the same time, protocols such as LEED® and BREEAM® recognize the LCA as a key tool for comparing design alternatives and supporting decisions in the early stages
  • of project development.

To respond to this evolution, Dabster has developed a structure dedicated to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) services applied to buildings. We support designers, contracting agencies, businesses and real estate investors in the assessment and optimization of the environmental impacts of the works.

  • Integrate environmental and economic sustainability: support the comparison between design alternatives through LCA and LCC analysis.
