But what skills are necessary to produce a good
lighting project? What does a good
lighting designer need to know? The answer to the question is not so obvious, because for a good result, interdisciplinary skills are needed. The lighting designer deals not only with the technical aspects of lighting, but also with physiological and psychological aspects, ergonomics and perception, even with sensations and feelings.
Lighting design must know the products on the market, it must know how they work, it must know how they are installed, know the regulations and apply it, but above all it must understand the customer's expectations, conceive the optimal configuration and consequently define the technical solution. Last but not least, it must deal with increasingly stringent energy regulations, and find the correct balance between the expectations of obtaining adequate light and comfort levels with the need to reduce energy consumption.
