Heating and DHW with heat pump while maintaining the existing system

12/01/2022

“Heat pumps will be the protagonists of the energy transition, there is a strong push for their use because they are able to guarantee a good share of renewable energy compared to technologies based on fossil combustion.”

This was stated by engineer Davide Corrado, product manager, during the LiveTalks that was held yesterday in live streaming and organized in collaboration with Samsung Climate Solutions.

According to current estimates, it is expected that 10 million heat pumps will be installed by 2025, up to 30 million in 2030.

If the installation of electric heat pumps is now a routine choice in new buildings, what happens in the context of residential renovations?

“It depends on the individual case,” said Eng. Corrado. Sometimes it is possible to replace only the generator while maintaining the existing system, other times this is not possible. There are multiple factors and variables that the designer must evaluate both during the inspection phase, since it is a renovation, and during

the design phase.

Variables to take into account

“It's not a simple Plug and Play,” the speaker emphasized, “the only case in which a direct replacement can be made is when a PdC is already present, in all other cases you have to carefully consider:
— the type of system; if it is only a heating system, only a system for the production of domestic hot water (DHW), a mixed heating + DHW system, how many zones does it consist of;
— the components of the plant;
— the building envelope, whether it is insulating or not.
Only in this way can the optimal solution be developed and proposed to the end user.”

It is well known that the low temperature radiant panel is the most suitable heat distribution system for heat pumps. But as part of a renovation, the creation of a radiant floor is not always possible, due to multiple factors

.

During the talk, the Samsung Climate Solutions solution was presented, which allows you to replace the old generator with a new generation technology such as PdC without upsetting the entire existing system and therefore the interiors of your home.

This is the EHS Mono HT Quiet.

This heat pump, with an elegant and refined design, is a time-resistant air conditioning solution, which combines advanced functionality and new technologies to reach a hot water temperature of up to 70° C and noise levels of just 35 dB (A) certified Quiet Mark.

EHS Mono HT Quiet is able to guarantee 100% heating performance even in extreme weather conditions (with temperatures down to -25 °C and +43 °C). In addition, the installation and maintenance of the unit is carried out easily

.

It is equipped with a new scroll compressor, which compresses refrigerant gases at much higher pressures and a “Flash Injection” technology that, in turn, increases the flow rate of the refrigerant gas.

Mr. Corrado showed practical examples of replacing the old generator with the PdC, which you can listen to again by clicking HERE.
