WaltherPark: integration, vision, concreteness

The WaltherPark project represents one of the most significant urban redevelopment interventions in recent years: a new mixed-use district that integrates public spaces, residences, hotels, offices, parking lots and a shopping center into a single and interconnected system.

For Dabster, it was a highly complex multidisciplinary challenge, tackled with an approach based on technical integration, design flexibility and constant presence alongside the development team. Not only plant engineering expertise, but ability to coordinate different functions, adapt to evolving needs and ensure that each element communicates with the entire system.

The result is a neighborhood that not only opens its doors to the city, but actually works as expected: a project made possible by method, vision and shared responsibility.

The WaltherPark is a real estate development project that creates new mixed-use public spaces, so with many different uses mixed together to create a new neighborhood. It is an urban redevelopment project that has completely changed the face of the city.

I have worked a lot with Dabster and I must say that we have found a trusted partner, who has helped us to always find the right solutions in the shortest possible time.

The WaltherPark must live, now it has opened with great success. There was a lot of curiosity and many visits to discover this new piece of the city. Now it must live, so it must develop, it must be welcomed by all citizens and it must also work technically. This promise of Dabster, with this project, must be realized now. The work therefore did not end together: after the opening we must fulfill this promise and have a building that works as expected.

The WaltherPark project was very challenging for us. When they hired us, it was already a very important job because it was the first truly multidisciplinary project of this size. However, we took it not only as a challenge, but as an opportunity to grow and try to understand how to combine different disciplines.

We were able to make our contribution because the project is very vast: it's not a simple building, it's a neighborhood. It was therefore necessary to create something integrated and, above all, that would not create problems for the surrounding buildings. The initial project certainly had to be very complete, but then, for needs related to sales, new departments and new areas developed over time, it had to adapt. Being too rigid can become a problem: our ability has been to be flexible, while trying to meet the needs of the building.

The winning element of this collaboration was that Thibault understood our added value, which is not only competence, but also being present, not abandoning the project and supporting the development and project management team in proactively solving problems.

The most important challenges were, first of all, working in Bolzano, a bilingual environment, where we had to manage both the German language and the Italian language. From a technical point of view, the most interesting aspect was the interconnection between all the functions of what is not just a building, but a neighborhood: parking lots, hotels, residences, shopping centers and offices.

There were many different needs that, among other things, changed over time, because the customers who rented the premises required different services or attention. It was therefore a project developed over a long period of time, with great commitment to interconnect the various functions and make sure that everything worked properly.

Arriving on October 15 and seeing the people inside was really a surprise. Soon after, the concern came: will everything really work? It looks like it's working.

If they had immediately entrusted me with the entire project, I would probably have been scared. I started by taking care of the construction management of the electrical part marginally and then, gradually, I took charge of the entire plant engineering part. It was a huge challenge. Thanks also to the support of my family and the Dabster team, who have always been there, we were able to complete it. It was truly a joy, a real personal victory.
